A new beginning

I've had this blog for a while, but haven't been keeping up with it at all. Hopefully this will all change now!

This morning has been good so far, and I'm getting ready to get some sewing done so it should stay that way. :)

I can't wait to meet some nice new people!

Etsy

We are finally finished with moving, though unfortunately nowhere near done unpacking. My room is a mess of boxes, and the rest of the house doesn't look much better. I found a few of my Little Friends and Monsters (along with some other things) yesterday while I was unpacking, and I will hopefully list them today or tomorrow. I really need to get a schedule down where I list something at least every other day so I don't get off track.

I am working on something NEW right now, and I'm very excited to get it listed. I don't want to give too much away, but it involves MP3s and breakfast treats.

Oh, if you stumble upon this blog prior to purchasing something at my shop, could you please let me know in your message to seller? I'd like to know if blog traffic affects sales at all. Thanks!

Traincat

Today I made this Traincat! It was fabulous when I discovered that the fleece I used for him was almost exactly the same colour as a blanket on my sister's bed.

Traincats are so named because I made the very first one on an Amtrak train on the way to Montana from Washington for Thanksgiving a few weeks ago. I may have stolen a pillow from the train to use as stuffing for the original cat... maybe. Ah well. This cat here is technically a Housecat, as my sister has been so kind to tell me, but he was made with the same pattern, so I'll still call him a Traincat. He's an imitation Traincat. An iTraincat? Haha. That's the most I've accomplished today, but I think it's pretty good!

This one is a Christmas present, but I'm thinking of making some more to sell on Etsy. That could be fun.

Photos!

ETA: I am sorry in advance for all spacing issues. I'm still getting used to Blogger, and I think this is me learning my lesson for waiting so long to post pictures. Never again.

I didn't have a chance to post yesterday, but it was because I was so busy working! At least I was being productive. I finally got the cord for my new camera, so I will be able to post my pictures for Crafting 365. On some days I may have more than one picture, but I don't think anyone will mind that.

But first, before the 365 pictures, here's just a random picture from the 2nd. That is when I originally intended to start my project, but then we had a major storm and lost power for a few days.

This is a picture of my hemline on the first skirt I've ever made. Am making, really, as I haven't finished it.I'm sewing it by hand because I am crazy, but also because I love doing things by hand. It makes me feel more connected to my work.

Friday, December 7 (First official day of Crafting 365) - It's a pleated skirt! Some of my projects will take a few days to be completed, but I'm hoping that no one will get bored with my pictures, as I do move around a lot.
This is one half of my skirt with all of the pins in it for the pleats. I was rediculously proud of myself for doing this, because I started sketching my pattern just by looking at a skirt. I did end up looking at a store bought pattern, but only to confirm that I had the right idea. I'm still proud!

Saturday, December 8 - A new project! I love making little fleece friends, as I have mentioned before, and this is onoe in the making! I had planned to list him on my Etsy shop when he was finished, but he's starting to grow on me. I'm thinking I may have to make another one.
Sunday, December 9 - Here are some photos of my little robot pal mostly completed. He is very photogenic. He was going to be one of the first of some little friends that I made without creating a pattern, so that I wouldn't be able to duplicate them. However, he turned out to be the most complicated plushie I've ever made, so I felt that I was forced to trace my pieces. I don't know if I would have been able to figure out that body shape again.

Monday, December 10 - Hooray and hoorah he's done! I haven't measured him yet, but he is over a foot tall. his legs and arms are attatched but buttons, and are gently move-able. He's very charming and I love him a lot, but I probably will end up listing him. I just don't have room for more friends in my room!

Tuesday, December 11 - I was busy yesterday! So very busy that I lost track of time and not only didn't get a chance to post, but I also barely got this picture taken in time before midnight rolled around. And no, as you will see from the picture I took today, that colour is not caused by flash- it really is that intense!
Wednesday, December 12 - Today! Day 6 of Crafting 365! I got a chance to take pictures of what I did yesterday, which I know is technically cheating, but I did get on picture of something I finished today. So, yesterday I made Christmas cards. For my friends and semi-hip relatives, I made zombie cards. On the inside they said:
By this time next year,
the world will probably
by overrun by ZOMBIES
So have fun while you can.
I love that card very much, and if it weren't too late for Christmas/holiday cards on Etsy, I would totally make some to list there. Maybe next year, if I remember in time.
All of these cards were hand drawn and written in with Sharpie markers.

The cards I made for my other family members were not nearly as exciting, but not too terrible either. They had painted snowglobes on them. And although you can't see in this horrible picture, I made sure that the snow had texture, so that it is quite noticable in person. On the inside, they said:
Shake it up
this Christmas!
I finished these today, so I suppose this is my 365 picture for the day.
And this is what you saw in the secretive picture from yesterday. This is my Christmas present for my mother. It is two canvases connected with ultra strength tacky glue. I painted them myself yesterday with acrylic paint. I did the kanji freehand, and I am so glad I didn't ruin it at the last step. The background of both canvases was blotted with paper napkins. I was at first dissapointed, but then as I went on, delighted that bits of the napkin were breaking off and attaching to the canvas. It added another level of dimension and it looks really nice.
Okay, now that I'm done with all of that, I'll sign off. Hopefully I won't have anymore big gaps in posting so I don't have to drone on and on about old photos again!

An introduction

Hello, my name is Kita Wheeler and this is my blog. I am 19 years old, I live with my family, and I am not currently employed or enrolled in school. However, I still somehow remain something other than a total loser. I spend the majority of my time crafting. Actually, to be honest, my time can probably be most accurately divided into the four main categories of Crafting & Creating, Surfing the Net, Doing Housework, and the ever important Sleeping.

When I craft, create, and make art, I do it in a variety of ways and through endless outlets. Currently I am very enamoured with sewing. I sew mostly small stuffed animals and monsters who need love, but I am adventurous. I recently started sewing myself a pleated skirt, which I will surely model when I'm finished. Also, I love to sew accents onto paper crafts. Paper is another great love of mine. I mainly make envelopes and small books, using as much recycled material as possible. Other artistic ventures I have tried and may at any time take up again are painting, drawing, sculpting, paper making, ATC (artist trading card) making, collaging, and mixed media. I think I've remembered everything.

I have been starting to get my Etsy shop set up with some things I've made recently, but it's slow going as I've had some computer/power/internet issues. I am very excited with the prospect of actually making money from something I've created with my own two hands.

If anyone stumbles upon this post, don't give up on me. My later posts will have less of me blathering on, and more pictures, as I am participating in Craft365. If you are unaware, that is where you craft a little every day and take a photo of it. Kind of a spin on Project365. I've been doing it for a few days now, but have yet to post any pictures online. It should be fun!
